  1. Gingival retraction, or retracted gums, can have several causes. One of them is brushing your teeth incorrectly or with an inadequate toothbrush.

According to Santa Ana Dentist sometimes when we clean our teeth we apply too much force, orient the bristles badly or use an excessively hard brush . The gum suffers and shrinks due to this cause.

It can also be a sign of periodontal disease , more severe, in which in addition to producing damage to the gum there is a loss of bone . An occlusion problem ("closing" the mouth badly) can also cause gingival retraction.

The gum of the tooth or teeth that suffer most from these excessive pressures and that are not normal can be damaged.

The causes that cause a retracted gum, as you see, can be very different. Your dentist is the one who will determine what your case is and advise you on what habits to modify and what solutions are in your situation.
